Want to turn your food scraps and garden waste into something useful? The new national website www.createyourowneden.org.nz provides easy guides to start composting, worm farming or using a Bokashi system.
The website provides ‘how to’ guides on smart gardening and home composting. Participating councils provide free composting courses to residents. Check out the website to see if your council participates.
To launch the website councils from the Auckland region are promoting a variety of composting systems at this year’s Auckland Home Show – September 10-14. People visiting the Create your own Eden stand will see a working worm farm and can go into the draw to win a free home compost system and a year’s subscription to the new Good – sustainable living magazine.
Francesca Price – host of Wasted and editor of Good magazine, will be at the Create your own Eden stand at the show to demonstrate the benefits of home composting and provide tips on reducing your garden and kitchen waste.
“A sustainable lifestyle combines the wisdom of the past with the technology of the future. It’s a smarter way to live”, says Francesca. Check out the Create your own Eden website for times when Francesca will be at the show and location of the Create your own Eden stand.
Local worm farming expert Colin McPike of ‘Worms R Us’, says there are a variety of quick and easy ways people can ‘Create their own Eden’ at home by putting kitchen and garden waste to good use. Check with your local library for access to the new Create your own Eden website.
