As part of Auckland Heritage Week and in conjunction with the Auckland City Council, Kaitiaki Tours will be launched on
the Waitemata, on September 21st 2008. Kaitiaki Tours invites you to partake in a traditional waka (ama) paddle on
Auckland's beautiful harbour. Families, Sports teams, tour groups, corporate teams and people who love being out on the
ocean are invited to partake in a historic, cultural tour with trained and experienced guides (Kaitiaki).
The return trip from Okahumatamomoe, otherwise known as Okahu Bay to Devonport (Te Hau Kapua) the landing place of the
Tainui waka will take approximately 1 hour and is easily achieved by people of an average fitness level. BBQ lunch will
be provided back at Kaitiaki Tours headquarters at The Okahu Landing, on completion of the journey.
Kaitiaki Tours is the ONLY waka (ama) tour group operating with the blessing of local Maori Tribe, Ngati Whatua.
Kaitiaki Tours is the ONLY waka (ama) tour group entrusted to deliver the history and traditional place names of Tamaki
Makaurau as shared from generation to generation. Kaitiaki Tours is the ONLY waka (ama) tour group to provide
experienced local guides from Orakei Marae, who grew up on the Waitemata; on every tour.
Each Waka can accommodate 10 visitors and will have 2 experienced Kaitiaki on board. Full training and safety
demonstrations will be provided as you embark on your journey, as guests of Tangaroa, the Guardian of the Sea. Tours
will be every Sunday (conditions permitting) from September 21st 2008. Tours go on the hour every hour from 10am and the
last tour of the day is at 2pm. Bookings essential. TOUR COST (includes BBQ lunch) = $45/person Join us on an
