UNICEF Christmas cards showcase Kiwi designs & help children
Wellington, 25 August 2008. – Iconic Kiwi designs feature strongly in this year’s UNICEF Corporate Christmas card
catalogue which has been sent to more than 8,000 businesses around the country.
UNICEF NZ Commercial Manager, Carolyn Shivanandan, says that the Christmas cards are an important source of funds for
UNICEF, which relies entirely on sales and donations to carry out its work improving the lives of children.
Businesses are encouraged to support UNICEF’s work for vulnerable children by sending UNICEF Christmas cards to their
clients and contacts.
The corporate catalogue includes 16 different card designs, most of which are the work of Kiwi artists and designers who
have donated their skills and talent. Their designs include Pohutukawa, the native Kereru (wood pigeon) and tui, and
beach scenes.
The artists themselves come from around the country, including Ben Gommers and Jenny Hunter (Auckland), Jane Galloway
(Raglan), Adam Errington (Wellington) and Malcolm Warr (a Kiwi currently based in Australia).
“UNICEF is always on the ground providing aid in emergencies like the Georgia-Ossetia conflict and the food crisis that
is hitting many parts of the developing world such as the Horn of Africa,” says Ms Shivanandan.
“But we also work with governments and international organisations to boost health, education and agriculture
infrastructure so that children will get the best chance at life.”
Ms Shivanandan says that businesses can make a real difference for children by supporting UNICEF’s Christmas cards.
