Due to illness the lead actor of Shining Armour has had to step down from the principle role; catapulting director Gene Alexander into the melee of onstage action.
Gene, who hails from the Ukraine, will be donning the helm of the “average New Zealander” in the role of Martin, your
everyday office worker, who lives by the chivalric code of the knights of old as a member of the Camelot Club.
When he meets Stacey, her dark secret forces him into a real life duel, forcing us to question whether we are guided by
our own sense of morality, or if there something more insidious lurking behind a ‘decent’ appearance. Tangled in a
deadly love triangle, can Martin uphold the values he holds so dear?
Shining Armour stars (and is directed by) Gene Alexander, a graduate of New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts (’99). He became
a member of Academy Company and has worked as an actor and director in New York as well as New Zealand. Recently, he
composed the music and played piano as well as performing in ‘A Streetcar Named Desire (Circa, ‘07) and directed Dostoevsky Trip for Fringe ‘08.
Philip Braithwaite has been awarded the BBC World Service/British Council International Radio Playwriting Award 2001,
the Sony Award for Radio Drama and the Massey University Cultural Award. He has collaborated with the Wellington-based
SEEyD Theatre Company.
