Arts Festival on TVNZ Pacific Service
TVNZ's Pacific Service is a partner in a joint venture to ensure Pacific nations share television coverage of next month's Festival of Pacific Arts, in Pago Pago, American Samoa.
Manager of TVNZ's Pacific Service, Ric Carlyon, says it's the first time that daily highlights of Festival events will be available on television. "This is a milestone in TV in the Pacific because until now broadcasters haven't been able to afford to cover the two-week Festival, which meant viewers were denied in-depth coverage of the region's biggest arts festival. This year artists are participating in various arts and crafts from more than 25 territories and we'll get television coverage to most of them".
A consortium of the Festival Organising Committee, the South Pacific Community, local TV station KVZK, Maori Television Service and TVNZ will share the costs of providing the coverage and the daily satellite transmissions to TV stations right across the Pacific from New Guinea to Hawaii.
