Audiences Promised Ground Breaking Technology And High-Octane Entertainment
IMAX promises to wow audiences in the coming months with ground breaking technology and classic high-octane entertainment with the upcoming release of The Dark Knight and Speed Racer: The IMAX Experiences.
Audiences will experience a high-velocity thrill ride when the live-action family adventure Speed Racer opens at IMAX, SKYCITY Cinemas, Queen St on 26 June. From the
Wachowski brothers and producer Joel Silver, the creators of The Matrix trilogy, comes the re-envisioning of an enduring classic that blends live-action with groundbreaking visual effects. With crystal clear, larger than life images and state-of-the-art digital surround sound, IMAX will put audiences in the “fast lane” for this action-packed, totally immersive cinematic experience.
“We shot ‘Speed Racer’ in pure digital cinema for super clean images and ultrahigh resolution, which will make the IMAX experience even more spectacular for audiences,” said producer Joel Silver.
The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience releasing on 24 July 2008, will feature six sequences filmed with IMAX® cameras (including the opening six minutes). This marks the first time ever that a major feature film has been even partially shot using IMAX cameras, marking a revolutionary integration of the two film formats. Sequences shot in traditional 35mm will be digitally re-mastered into The IMAX Experience® with proprietary IMAX DMR® technology. The two formats will be seamlessly integrated and morph between full IMAX and IMAX DMR. In other words, scenes shot in 35mm will appear in IMAX DMR (letterbox), while scenes shot with IMAX’s cameras on 15/70mm film will expand vertically to fill the entire IMAX screen, which can be up to eight stories tall, for an all-encompassing IMAX Experience.
The Dark Knight: The IMAX Experience and Speed Racer: The IMAX Experience will debut concurrently with the nationwide release in conventional theatres on 35mm from Roadshow Film Distributors. Tickets to Speed Racer at IMAX are on sale from Thursday 19 June. SKYCITY Cinemas IMAX is situated at 291-297 Queen St, Auckland.
