Fieldays winds up for 2008
The Fieldays Dog Trial
A further 31,080 visitors took the chance to see Fieldays today, on the final day, bringing the event attendance total to 131,629.
The Fieldays National Tractor Pull competition also wound up with three days of rumbling races culminating in a grand final at 1.30 today. In the standard Tractor Pull competition, Mark Bining took first place, followed by tough competitors Luke Houghton (second) and Roger White (third). In the Weight Transfer class, Mike Reymer took the honours, followed by Richard Waldon, Marcus Horner and Sid Smith. Townsend took out the Teams competition with Gavin Grain and Austins following in second and third respectively.
Judging at the AgTrader Sculpture Contest was completed today also. Tamahere Country School took away the prize in the Schools class for their creation ‘Jerry the Farm Horse’ and ‘HMS Regal’ by Murray Matushka won the People’s Choice Award. ‘HMS Regal’ was also a judges favourite, taking out first prize in the open class.
Fieldays is over for another year, but organisers are already looking forward to 2009 with the Premier Feature for next year to be ‘My Farm, Our Environment’, sponsored by AgResearch. Fieldays 2009 will be held 10 – 13 June 2009.
