Vector Arena transformed for first family show
It has taken just 48 hours for Vector Arena to be transformed into an ice rink in preparation for its first family show, Disney's High School Musical "The Ice Tour".
Close to 40,000 people will enjoy the first ever show of its kind at the venue, which has now been open for a little over a year.
Vector Arena general manager Guy Ngata is looking forward to welcoming a different crowd through the doors over the next five days.
"It will be great to see families and young people here, and this promises to be a fantastic show with dancing, music and non-stop fun," he says.
"We've had such a range of acts this year already and with more being announced all the time it's clear that Vector Arena is a versatile venue."
Disney's High School Musical "The Ice Tour" features hit songs from the movies High School Musical and High School Musical 2 - a pop culture sensation.
Earlier this week layer upon layer of water was poured onto steel-framed boards that act as a giant freezer tray to create the surface for the ice show.
It will only take a day to dismantle the ice rink after the show finishes on Monday, returning it to normal for other acts following hard on its heels.
"Already this year we've sold more than 170,000 ticket to some huge shows including Rod Stewart, Foo Fighters, Westlife and Elton John, and there's plenty more to come," says Mr Ngata.
"We've got R royalty Mary J Blige and World Wrestling Entertainment Smackdown next month, The Demon Energy Supercross and Gravity Games in July, and world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli in August."
"It's shaping up to be a year jam-packed with top acts at Vector Arena, and the increasing variety means many more people will have the opportunity to come and experience it."
For those going to High School Musical "The Ice Tour" - remember to wrap up warm!
