Musical chairs at Kiwi FM
Mr Wammo
***** Wallace moves into the Driver's seat; Wammo's coming to Breakfast
Auckland, 27 May 2008 – Kiwi FM's two flagship show hosts are to trade places from 3 June.
Current Kiwi FM Breakfast host Wallace Chapman will host the Drive show, from 3-6pm weekdays, while Drive host Glenn
'Wammo' Williams moves – you guessed it – to the Breakfast slot, 6-10am weekdays.
Kiwi listeners will already be familiar with Wallace and Wammo's shows, both of which are known for intelligent,
thought-provoking discussion with top news, cultural and political commentators alongside a playlist of all-New Zealand
music.
Kiwi FM Programme Director Michael Higgins says, "A job swap has been on the cards for a while now. Wallace has
continually expressed his desire for a decent sleep-in, while Wammo keeps banging on about the free muffins that
supposedly come with the Breakfast role and the fact he wants to talk to the Prime Minister once a week. The move also
allows Wallace to fit in both his commitment to Kiwi and the demands of his weekly television show Back Benches."
He adds that both shows will maintain their "smarter-than-the-average mix of informed chat, incisive interviews and
great Kiwi music".
Wammo (who before joining the Kiwi team in 2006 spent many years getting up at the crack of dawn as RDU Breakfast host)
will continue to speak weekly with current Drive regulars such as poet Sam Hunt, media commentator Russell Brown, 'voice
of the creative economy' Vincent Heeringa, tech correspondent Paul Brislen, New Scientist journalist Bianca Nogrady and
comedian Te Radar on the new Radio Wammo Breakfast. He'll also maintain current Breakfast features including weekly
chats with the PM and Leader of the Opposition and foreign correspondents.
The Wallace Chapman Drive show will continue to feature independent news from Scoop.co.nz's Selwyn Manning, relationship
advice from Averill Richardson, DVD reviews from Rudy Adrian, the Odd Jobs Report and more.
Breakfast producer Kirsty Bond will stay on in the early-morning slot (and will break the news to Wammo that there are
no free muffins).
