Greymouth Gets The Gig
Greymouth has been chosen from hundreds of entries to host the official closing gig of NZ Music Month 2008.
All throughout May, Kiwis the length and breadth of the country have been entering the Little Town, Big Gig competition, vying for the chance to host the official closing gig of NZ Music Month. Entries have been received from
the top of the North Island to Stewart Island and been sorted through by the band, NZ Music Month organisers, and the
folks at Telecom to choose the most compelling little town for the Big Gig.
This morning on The Edge’s Morning Madhouse breakfast show Opshop’s Jason Kerrison stopped by to surprise David Daglish
on the phone and tell him that his call for the Big Gig to be held in Greymouth's Regent Theatre (“Because we love NZ
music! And we are home of whitebait!!”) was the winner.
“We’re excited about taking the gig to Greymouth” Kerrison says “we wanted to play there as part of our upcoming
national tour, but unfortunately it didn’t work. Thanks to David we’ll now be able to share our live show with the town,
and what’s more, it’ll be free!”
NZ Music Month Manager Steve Newall shares Kerrison’s enthusiasm about wrapping up NZ Music Month in Greymouth. “Having
done big public shows in Auckland, Wellington, and Christchurch in previous years with bands like Shihad, The Bleeders,
and Fur Patrol, we’ve always felt like smaller towns miss out. We’re delighted to be taking one of New Zealand’s biggest
bands to the West Coast, look forward to generous helpings of whitebait and Monteiths and can’t wait to see the show.”
Telecom’s marketing guy, David Craig believes Greymouth is the perfect location to hold Little Town Big Gig. “It’s everything we were looking for as a judging panel, - uniquely Kiwi and a fantastic venue. I’m sure we’ll see
people lining up for tickets when they are distributed on Wednesday.”
Tickets to Little Town, Big Gig with Opshop are free to the public, and available on a first come, first served basis at the Regent Theatre foyer in
Greymouth from 4pm on Wednesday May 28.
Early on the morning of Friday May 30th the band will board the TranzAlpine in Christchurch and cross the Southern Alps
on what is rated as one of the world’s best train journeys, a great start to a day that will conclude with them treating
Greymouth to a taste of what the rest of the country can expect on their Big Energy In A Can Theatre Tour.

How to get tickets
The Telecom Little Town, Big Gig with Opshop is a free all-ages show to mark the closing of NZ Music Month 2008.
Free tickets are available at the Regent Theatre foyer from 4pm, Wednesday May 28.
The Gig will take place on Friday May 30 at the Regent Theatre, Greymouth. Doors open at 7pm.
