Spreading Green Film
Over 50 independent films will make their New Zealand or world premiere in Palmerston North at Reel Earth – the Aotearoa
Environmental Film Festival, which opens Thursday 22 May.
Our dedicated selectors have previewed over 300 entries from thirty-three countries, from which the best have been
selected for screening at Reel Earth.
Jury panellists have considered and conferred awards for New Zealand and International films in Best Feature, Best
Short, Best Micro, and Best Young Filmmaker Categories in competitive fields. These awards will be announced at the
Festival.
Opening Thursday 22 May, the first three nights are hosted at the Globe Theatre, with the red carpet out to welcome
visiting filmmakers from Auckland and Sydney on the Friday and Saturday nights. These gala sessions will also include a
range of films from the Festival as a foretaste of the fortnight of premieres. After those first three sessions, the
Festival migrates to Downtown Cinemas from Sunday 25 May - Saturday 7 June for two weeks of hosted premieres, and second
screenings of the more popular films.
Reel Earth is a not-for profit project run by an enthusiastic team of volunteers. The Festival is sustained by our
principal sponsor the Palmerston North City Environmental Trust, and supporting sponsors including Creative Communities
New Zealand, Palmerston North City Council, Envirochoice, Bruce McKenzie Booksellers, Outpost Digital Media, Kingsgate
Palmerston North, InspireNet, Advantage Computers, and the Royal Forest & Bird Protection Society of New Zealand.
First launched in 2005, Reel Earth aims to connect audiences with today’s best films focused on the environment. Subject
matter ranges from natural history to environmental & social justice, including stories that inspire and challenge.
Tickets for the Globe Sessions are $15 ($10 concession), available now at Bruce McKenzie Booksellers in George Street or
on the door if not sold out prior. Tickets for the Downtown Cinemas sessions opening 25 May will be available at the
venue from 15 May.
