Adelaide Conference on Homelessness
Downtown Community Ministry’s Alan Norman and Kate Bell travel to Adelaide next week for the biannual National Homelessness Conference.
The theme for the conference is New Horizons: Practice, Research and Emerging Issues.
It aims to create a framework for ending homelessness through increasing understanding of its social and economic impacts.
Community Outreach Worker Kate Bell says, “The conference brings together a huge range of researchers and people creating social policy to end homelessness in Australia. We’ll get a real taste of what’s going on and the intersectoral approach they use.”
The conference lasts three days and, Kate says, it includes sessions with particular relevance to Wellington’s situation.
“We’re looking forward to the sessions on sustaining housing; mental health/substance abuse; and using research to influence policy.
“When you walk into a new place the people you meet can often give you a completely fresh way of looking at things. So hopefully we’ll come back with lots of ideas.”
