All Blacks join World Kids Colouring Day
All Black Joe Rokocoko swapped a rugby ball for colouring pens when he joined students at St Dominic’s Primary School in
Blockhouse Bay to launch the first World Kids Colouring Day.
Always keen to show his dexterity, despite the wrist injury that will keep him out of the game till July, Joe joined
more than 50 students, aged from five to 11 as they set about creating their own drawings for the global art initiative
run in partnership with Save the Children New Zealand and STAEDTLER NZ.
St Dominic’s is one of more than 200 schools in New Zealand taking part in the worldwide event which will see students
trade or auction their artworks among friends and family.
The money they raise will go towards Save the Children’s Rewrite the Future education programmes in Colombia. These
programmes support efforts to provide underprivileged children with the chance of a quality education and an escape from
poverty.
Said Joe: “It’s great to be a part of this initiative and meet the children of St Dominic’s who are all really excited
about the project. As the official charity of the All Blacks, we’re delighted to be able to support Save the Children
New Zealand and its Rewrite the Future project.”
John Bowis, Executive Director of SCNZ said: “Save the Children is working to reduce the impact of prolonged cyclical
violence in Colombia, and ensure that children get access to and complete their primary education.
“We are committed to raising more than US$6.8 million (NZ8.4 million) to help children and young people in Colombia.
This year’s World Kids Colouring Day and the efforts of St Dominic’s will help us towards that target.”
