LG Mystics Hip Hoppers Add New Dimension To On-Court Action
The LG Mystics have introduced a six man cheerleading squad, the LG Mystics Hip Hoppers, who have been hip hoping around courtside, to get LG Mystics fans moving and shaking in support of their team.
The LG Mystics Hip Hoppers, are members of the TriPLe8FuNk Dance Company, a student based group that started at the University of Auckland in 2000. TriPLe8FuNk is one of Auckland’s most anticipated street dance teams, placing fifth at the 2007 Hip Hop World Championships in Los Angeles. The dancers are part of a wider collective who host workshops, concerts and community programs, as well competing internationally.
LG Electronics Marketing Manager, Mandy Waldin, says the company is delighted to have such a talented young group of dancing stars adding to the entertainment and cheering the LG Mystics on.
“It’s an exiting time for the LG Mystics in the inaugural ANZ Championship with the final scores reflecting the intensity of the competition. On-court the action is fast and furious and the addition of the LG Mystics Hip Hoppers has added a whole new dimension to the excitement and dynamism of the game,” says Ms Waldin.
“The LG Mystics Hip Hoppers perform after each LG Mystics goal, and during the half time break. There has been plenty of crowd interaction throughout the games, with the LG Mystics Hip Hoppers throwing loads of LG Mystics merchandise into the stands for LG Mystics fans to enjoy,” continues Ms Waldin.
The LG Mystics Hip Hoppers rotate with six members of the team performing at each LG Mystics home game.љ The LG Mystics Hip Hoppers, aged between 18 and 23, include Alby Yap, (Architecture student, Unitech), Jason Lee, (BCom, LLB student, The University of Auckland), Kim Ty (International Cert in Travel Tourism), Kohei Iguchi (BSC - The University of Auckland), Lex Tapay (BCom - The University of Auckland), Val Yumul (Bachelor of Health Science - AUT) with Ben Journee, Kamy Mam and Rapana Maihi, who are all recent school leavers.
The LG Mystics Hip Hoppers perform their routines courtside at all LG Mystics home games throughout the season, the next one being at 7pm on Monday 12th May against the Waikato Bay of Plenty Magic at Trusts Stadium in Henderson.
