Young people willing to push themselves, to learn more about who they are,
what they can do and how to work with others, all mixed in with some great
boating, are being offered a place at the nation¹s top Sea Cadet Unit.
TS Talisman recently featured in the Nelson Mail for being awarded the
Ex-Royal Navalman¹s Award Sea Cadet trophy and is now recruiting 10 new
entrants.
Cadet unit commander, Milo Coldren says a new entrants class for 13 &14 year
olds begins on May 13.
³We have heaps of fun learning about leadership, confidence, teamwork,
drill, sailing, boat work, weapons, navigation & survival skills,² says
Milo. ³We want to give them a chance to experience what we do, before making
their decision. Sometimes it¹s Mum or Dad who want it more than the
prospective cadet, so we don¹t ask for commitment until after the third
week.²
Free information nights for interested teens and their parents will be held
from 7:30-8:30 pm Monday 5 May and Wednesday 7 May at the unit headquarters
at 24 Harley St, across from the Police Station.
TS Talisman is also looking for one more instructor/officer to complement
its staff. If you are of exceptional character, have a good sense of humour,
are familiar with the sea and or military, and want to be part of a positive
