Marystaple Release Debut Album
Following the completion of a nationwide tour, Wellington rock band Marystaple are set to see in New Zealand music month
with the release of their debut album ‘No Need To Be Nervous’ on May 1.
No Need To Be Nervous, was recorded and mixed at Kog Studios during 2007 by Tui nominated engineer Dave Holmes, and
mastered at Sterling Sound in NYC by mastering luminary Greg Calbi whose impressive discography boasts Kings Of Leon,
Sonic Youth, Interpol, David Bowie, Bob Dylan, John Lennon, & The Spice Girls amongst others.
The album recording process itself was a fits and starts affair, with over 30 songs tracked before a change of approach
was adopted and the band decided to throw themselves in a room to play the album live. The end result was 13 songs
tracked in just 2 days, with an obvious emphasis on the live dynamic at which Marystaple excel.
The album has been described as an enigmatic collection of blues fuelled indie rock, with a foundation built on the
bands Wellington guitar background, but flavoured by a surprisingly dynamic collection of songs.
Marystaple are perhaps best known for their live show, which has seen them support NZ acts such as Shihad, The Datsuns,
The D4, Pluto, Goodshirt, Garageland, Betchadupa and HDU, as well as international acts such as The Superjesus,
Grinspoon, and plenty of others at The Big Day out.
Their recent No Need To Be Nervous tour has received an overwhelmingly positive response, with a sold out homecoming
show in Wellington testament to the bands faithful live fan base and the anticipation surrounding this long awaited
independent rock release.
No Need To Be Nervous is available on iTunes worldwide, Smoke CDs, and selected retail outlets from 1 May 2008.
