Rising Kiwi Talent Set To Wow Music Execs In Hollywood
News release 27th April 2008
Move over Justin Timberlake. One of New Zealand’s rising stars will have his first shot at superstardom when he performs
in front of the world’s top music moguls in Hollywood this July.
Jeremy Walden, an 18 year-old singer/songwriter from Tauranga, will take the stage at Universal Studios and perform in
front of record label executives from Warner Music, Capitol Records, Disney, Interscope and Sony as part of the
Hollywood Pop Academy five day workshop.
It’s tough competition with some of the world’s most talented teenagers attending the workshop to learn vocal technique,
vocal and stage performance, songwriting, dancing and artist development.
Many of the Academy’s recent graduates have gone on to become finalists on American Idol, launch solo singing careers
and land roles in films and television.
“It really is a dream come true for me especially because I will be working with Christina Aguilera’s manger Ron
Harris,’’ says Walden
Walden has been singing and performing since he was six years old and describes his current style of music as “hip-hop,
urban R pop”.
With the help of sponsorship from well-known youth skincare brand Clean & Clear, Walden is currently travelling the country performing at schools in all major centres to raise funds for his
Hollywood trip.
“I’m putting on lunch time concerts at colleges which are all about having fun, showing my range of music skills as a
teenage pop artist and having a lot of laughs along the way,” Walden says.
Walden believes touring is the best way to build a relationship with his audience.
“Touring in this country is long overdue,” he says “I want to get up close and meet my fans and if I can make somebody’s
day then I’m doing a great job.”
It’s a gruelling schedule with Walden performing up to 10 shows each week for three months but he says that there is
nothing else he would rather be doing.
“My goal is to be the best I can be and with the gift I’ve been given and to share it with people worldwide,” Walden
says. “My plan is to stay in the music industry for a very long time.”
