The NBR New Zealand Opera’s season of the great romantic opera La Bohème opens in Wellington on Saturday 10 May and in Auckland on Thursday 29 May, and anyone aged under 25 can attend for just $25.
From 9:00am on the day of the show, under 25 year olds who present their ID in person at the St James Theatre box office (Wellington) or the Aotea Centre box office (Auckland), are eligible for the $25 ticket price, subject to ticket availability. Under 25s tickets cannot be reserved or put on hold, and only one ticket per ID can be purchased. Any ID that shows proof of age is accepted.
Puccini’s La Bohème is arguably the most popular of all operas, and The NBR New Zealand Opera’s new production sees a vibrant cast and creative team bring this timeless classic back to life in a fresh and stylish way.
Hot young international stars Antoinette Halloran, Jesus Garcia, Tiffany Speight and Marcin Bronikowski take up the lead roles with energy and pizzazz, while the dynamic duo of director Patrick Nolan and designer Ralph Myers inject a contemporary perspective to make the opera relevant to today’s society and provide audiences with a memorable theatrical experience.
Much more than just another tragic love story, La Bohème is a universal story that any young person or anyone who remembers being youthful will identify with. In Puccini’s tour de force, audiences get the whole package – the tortured relationships, the resonant characters and the magnificent arias. Whether you are a Puccini enthusiast, attending an opera for the first time, or just a sucker for love, the story of Mimì and Rodolfo will captivate and move you.
