MEDIA RELEASE APRIL 2008
Do You Know New Zealand’s Mother Of The Year?
last chance to nominate a deserving mum
As Mother’s Day approaches, it’s timely to remember everything our mothers do for us, from caring for us when we’re young, to supporting us as we grow older.
The role of motherhood is often a thankless one, which is why New Zealand’s first online community just for mums, Mothers Online, has launched the Mother of the Year Awards.
“We’re searching the country to find New Zealand’s Mother of the Year and to acknowledge the wonderful job that mums do every day across the country,” says Mothers Online founder and mother of four, Minka Phillips.
“We’ve been humbled by the nominations so far, with some amazing, everyday Kiwi women who not only go above and beyond with their own children, but in their communities too. These amazing Kiwi women truly are our nation’s unsung heroes.”
Nominations close on April 30, so there’s still plenty of time to nominate a deserving mother you know by visiting www.motheroftheyear.co.nz. People can also vote for their favourite nominees, who will go forward to the “People’s Choice” Award. There are four age categories, which will each have a winner and the overall Mother of the Year will be announced in time for Mothers Day (Sunday 11 May).
Sarah Bradley, from TV One’s Good Morning show is a judge of the Awards and is herself a mum. She says “being a Mum means having the honour to watch a little human being grow…it is the best thing to be part of that process”.
Joining Sarah on the judging panel is Alison Quigan from Shortland Street, Polly Gillespie from ZM and the Honourable Steve Chadwick, Minister of Women’s Affairs and a trained Midwife.
The Mother of the Year will win a fabulous prize pack including: a Kia car for six months, two nights luxury accommodation staying at Auckland’s Crowne Plaza hotel, a Rinnai Energy Saver heater, an Elba washer and dryer from Fisher & Paykel, a Slim Down, Shape Up plan from Dr Damian Kristof, a set of Dyrberg Kern jewellery from NeelearNomad.co.nz, a year’s supply of Bell tea, a year’s supply of Gravity coffee and goodies from Griffin’s, Naturopharm, TV2 and more. The four age category winners and the People’s Choice winner will each receive a prize pack to the value of around $3000.
If you would like to vote for the mothers who have been nominated so far, please visit: www.motheroftheyear.co.nz. Nominations close 30th April with final votes accepted until 2 May 2008.
