The first ever Style Christchurch series of fashion events was held in November 2007 to coincide with New Zealand Cup and Show Week. Fashion designers, sponsors, media and event goers alike were impressed by the calibre of production and creative execution that went into designing the Style Christchurch shows.
"Producing Style Christchurch 2007 was a rewarding experience. I’m pleased to work on a project that is so worthwhile to the New Zealand fashion industry and I plan to build on the 2008 shows to create further opportunities and exposure for our local Canterbury designers. This year we will also showcase national and Australia Pacific designers as well as Canterbury designers,” says Style Christchurch director and producer Andhy Blake.
Now 2008 sees rapid growth for Style Christchurch with a number of additions planned for this year’s big week of fashion. Two new shows have been added to the Style Christchurch list of events. The Red Dress Collection will feature a range of Avante Guard, evening wear and ready to wear pieces by leading fashion designers, which will be auctioned off for charity. The Retail Collection will feature a selection of ready to wear outfits from retail fashion stores in the Canterbury Region.
Style Christchurch Director and Producer Andhy Blake is excited about the new shows. “Thanks to the support I’ve had from Christchurch City Council, sponsors and designers I’m proud to grow Style Christchurch from 2 to 4 shows for our second year! We will still begin the week with the New Generation Show which gives up and coming designers the chance to break into the world of fashion! And the big event will still be the Finale Show which will feature top national, Christchurch and even some international designers on the final night of the week. And now we also have the Red Dress Collection and the Retail Show to add to the list,” he says.
An exciting addition to 2008 sees Auckland based boutique PR Company and fashion media relations specialist ‘Anna Jobsz PR ’ as this year’s new publicity, sponsorship and promotions manager.
“AJPR & Events has vast experience within New Zealand fashion PR, fashion shows, sponsorship and the media. I’m really excited to have Anna and her team on board,” says Andhy Blake.
Another coup for Style Christchurch sees the Sunday Star Times appointed as overall media partner for the week of fashion.
“Sunday Star-Times are proud to become the official media partner of Style Christchurch 2008. We see this as a great opportunity to support the local fashion industry in Canterbury and strengthen our brand in the South Island. We offer our full support to Andhy and his team through their forthcoming fashion initiatives,” says Pip Costello, Marketing Manager, Fairfax Media Sundays.
The Christchurch City Council continues to support Style Christchurch for 2008 and plays a significant role in supporting the shows with locations and hosting during the big week.
