Ice Blacks Lose Closing Match Against Mexico
The New Zealand Ice Blacks lost a closely fought game against Mexico (0-2)in the IIHF World Championship Division II Group B in Newcastle,Australia last night.
With an even first period,Mexico was able to capitalise on a penalty against New Zealand for too many play rs on the ice to end the first period (0-1). In the second period the Ice Blacks should great commitment and discipline,not conceding any penalties until the last minute of the period,they were still unable to stop a brilliant goal by Mexico in the 36 th minute to finish the period trailing (0-2).
The third period saw the Ice Blacks with a brilliant defensive effort,not letting the Mexican team get any shots on goal.Keep scoreless the Ice Blacks finished the game (0-2).
The Kiwis will face off against home town favorites Australia tonight in what is shaping up to be a classic Trans-Tasman game. Ice Blacks MVP was Adam Soffer.
