New Zealand's most celebrated dance company Footnote Dance is back with a new season of 2008 Made in New Zealand, the essential New Zealand dance experience.
Following a hugely successful 2007 tour, the 2008 Made in New Zealand season returns with its unique and serendipitous fusion of all new dance works by Kiwi choreographers set to original music by New Zealand composers. Quite simply, it's all kiwi.
Beginning with a special preview of the works on April 11 as part of the Dunedin Fringe Festival, Footnote Dance tours 2008 Made in New Zealand to Wellington on April 29, Hastings (May 24), Auckland (May 26) before concluding in Hamilton, June 24.
For the well-travelled Footnote Dance director Deirdre Tarrant, 2008 Made in New Zealand celebrates the most special place in the world for her: home.
"My passion for dance has taken me to the most amazing places on earth, but there's nothing like coming back to the beauty of New Zealand," says Tarrant.
"2008 Made in New Zealand is an unflinching celebration of our unique country. That's why we commission New Zealand choreographers and composers to devise a celebration of New Zealand through the beauty of dance."
However the repertoire is not all about grace and beauty. Men and women, girls and boys of all ages will find some of the most breathtaking elegance and gut-busting athleticism showcased within the dance movement.
The six choreographers featuring in the 2008 season of Made in New Zealand are Malia Johnston, Sarah Foster, Deirdre Tarrant, Merenia Gray, with Footnote Dancers Sarah Knox and Hannah Elks debuting as choreographers to national audiences.
The musicians lined up for this season include Craig Sengelow with vocalist Toni Huata, Francesca Mountfort, The Fountainhead, Chapman Tripp winner Stephen Gallagher, Eden Mulholland from rock band Motocade and Brendan Elks.
