Mt Ruapehu Set for An Awesome Season

Ruapehu Alpine Lifts (RAL), operator of Mt Ruapehu ski area, is preparing for a fantastic 2008 ski season, with great value Season Passes are on sale now to ensure skiers and boarders can take advantage of the $35 million in developments made on the mountain over the past five years.
Mt Ruapehu marketing manager, Mike Smith says despite some challenging weather the 2007 season was a memorable one on the mountain.
“2007 really was a season to remember with the opening of our new high speed, six-seater High Noon Express chairlift at Turoa, along with a massive expansion of the snow making system, and a major redevelopment of the Alpine Café and Vertical retail store in the base area at Turoa,” says Mr Smith.
“Last year was also a record breaking year. During the season we had a record day for both sides of Mt Ruapehu with over 12,000 visitors in total, and Turoa had a record 6,000 people on one day also. With more than $35million invested into developments over the past five years and additional facilities due to open at Turoa for this coming season, we believe 2008 will be bigger and better than ever.”
New developments at Mt Ruapehu for the 2008 season include a 50 metre long moving carpet in the Turoa Alpine Meadow beginners’ area, and a kids centre for 2-5 year olds at Turoa Ski Area.
Skiing and boarding enthusiasts can make the most of the new facilities by purchasing a Mt Ruapehu Season Pass, available at a great value early-bird price during April.
Mt Ruapehu’s Season Pass offers unlimited skiing for the entire 2008 season and costs $419 for adults, $369 for students and $249 for youths (aged 18 and under), during the month of April. Mt Ruapehu is also offering an additional $10 discount on Season Passes to those who purchase online at www.mtruapehu.com.
Purchasers also receive a voucher book with great discounts on Snow School, rentals, workshop, retail and food and beverage, valued at more than $100.
“Early-bird Season Passes offer great value. In 2008, an Adult All-Lifts Day Pass at Mt Ruapehu will cost $83, so purchasers will cover the cost of a Season Pass in less than five days on the mountain.”
Early-bird Season Passes can be purchased until 30 April 2008 online at www.mtruapehu.com, or by phoning 0508 Ruapehu (782 734) from 8am to 5pm, Monday to Friday.
