Over the course of human history, the popular form of the image has changed across multiples mediums, from cave
drawings, to textiles, to paintings, to print media and now to the modern electronic form. This evolution is largely
based on the reproducibility of the image in the most efficient manner possible. By sampling it into small discrete
pieces, the digitized form allows for unprecedented speed in all uses of the image. The digital image allows for the
transmission, storage and visualization of what we assume to be a static visual representation. However, the data itself
is continuously broken down and reconstituted through space and time, in varying ways, in the digital universe. Here, a
repackaged form of the human figure in "Pixel Nude" conserves all the data from digitization; yet its structure is
reconstituted as an abstraction that relates directly to the base unit of modern visual information, namely the pixel.
This "picture element" (abbreviated, of course) is a product of the digitized world we now take for granted. These works
investigate how the speed and efficiency afforded by technology affects our form of visual depiction. Further to that,
they question the digital mechanism as a means of self-representation in a world where personal interactions are often
translated through a digital mediator.
