Enchanted Tales
Auckland Wind Orchestra is performing a programme of “Enchanted Tales” including the Triumphal March from Peter and the
Wolf by Prokofiev and Berceuse and Finale from The Firebird by Stravinsky. De Meij’s Symphony No. 1 “The Lord of the
Rings” is inspired by Tolkien’s trilogy. We are playing three movements, I Gandalf, III Gollum and V Hobbits.
Ewan Clark (BMus, Grad.Dip.Arts, Dip.Tchg.) was born in Dunedin and has worked and studied his way up New Zealand ever
since. He has a wide range of interests in music, starting with playing trombone while still at primary school. He
studied composition at Otago University and a number of his compositions have been performed. During five years in
Wellington Ewan furthered his composition studies and received conducting lessons. Since then he has conducted many
different ensembles. For the last two years he has taught music at Auckland Grammar School. Ewan joined the Auckland
Wind Orchestra as a trombonist last year and conducted one piece in the last concert.

Auckland Wind Orchestra Background
The orchestra is a non-profit organisation governed by an incorporated society which was formed in 1972. The Auckland
Wind Orchestra is associated with the Auckland Youth Symphonic Band, a group that promotes interest in music and wind
instruments among younger Aucklanders.
