ASB Polyfest Showcase this Saturday night (29 March)
This Saturday night the cream of school cultural groups hit the stage at the Telstra Clear Pacific Events Centre for the
ASB Polyfest Showcase.
Saturday’s Showcase features the winning groups from this year’s Maori, Cook Islands, Niue, Samoan & Tongan stages in a one-night extravaganza of cultural dance.
The ASB Polyfest which took place a fortnight ago involved 66 schools, 200 cultural groups and 9000 students performing
traditional cultural groups on five stages.
The winning groups from the Polyfest now perform on the same stage with full sound and lighting, in a night designed to
‘celebrate cultural diversity and performance excellence’.
The ASB Polyfest Showcase provides a wonderful opportunity for the public to see some of the cultural groups which have
dominated the ASB Polyfest in recent years, such as –
The Avondale College Samoan group which has won the best co-ed school competition on the Samoan stage for the past 7
years.
The Sir Edmund Hilary Collegiate Cook Islands group which has won the Cook Islands competition for the past three years.
The are also some very special entries taking the stage at Saturday’s Showcase –
The Maori stage at the Polyfest was won this year by all girls kapa haka group. This group was from Auckland Girls
Grammar, and is a product of their Maori unit – Kahurangi.
The host school for this year’s ASB Polyfest, Wesley College has a group on the Tongan stage.
The inaugural ASB Polyfest Showcase will be officially opened by Prime Minister, Helen Clark.
This special evening provides a great opportunity for the public to see Maori & Pacific Island performance at its best, with the five best cultural groups from the Polyfest on the same stage for the
first time.

Clear Pacific Events Centre. Doors open at 5:00pm, and the show starts at 6:30pm.
