Call for applications to Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writers’ Residency at the University of Hawaii
New Zealand-based Pacific writers wishing to work on a project exploring Pacific identity, culture or history are invited to apply to the Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writers’ Residency. The residency will run for three months from mid August 2008 at the Centre for Pacific Islands Studies at the University of Hawaii.
Applications to the 2008 Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writers’ Residency at the University of Hawaii close at 5pm on Friday, 2 May 2008.
Open to writers across all genres, including playwrights, fiction and non-fiction writers, poets and screen writers, the residency includes return airfares, accommodation costs and an artist stipend. Previous recipients have included filmmaker Sima Urale, performance poet Tusiata Avia and children’s author, Sarona Aiono-Iosefa.
The recipient of the 2008 Fulbright-Creative New Zealand Pacific Writers’ Residency at the University of Hawaii will have had work published or accepted for publication. In the case of scriptwriters or playwrights, he or she will have had work performed or accepted for performance.
The recipient will be expected to work on an approved project during this time and contribute to other opportunities provided by the residency. There will also be an opportunity for professional development, including invitations to give lectures and interviews, make contact with suitable agents and publishers, and enhance the development of New Zealand Pacific literature.
