Michael Lett is pleased to announce an exhibition of new work by Chris Lipomi.
Chris Lipomi’s recent bodies of work draw on a range of founding influences. Wanting to be able to paint like Basquiat, Chris painted a Basquiat a day for a year. Chris Lipomi’s most recent show in New York applied the formal structure of Jason Rhoades’ Perfect World (1999), and for his show at Michael Lett he does likewise with another: Mike Kelley’s Craft Morphology Flow Chart (1991).
Chris Lipomi was born in Miami in 1975 and now lives and works in Los Angeles. Recent solo exhibitions include Uzihektakta Wakipi, (CaVe Project), Los Angeles;Webik: Okiri Wakipi, Renwick Gallery, New York; Laau Pi, Atelier Frankfurt, Frankfurt; Art Positions, Daniel Hug at Art Basel Miami Beach, Miami; Kukadiku, Karma International, Zurich; Makawana Omawaki, Daniel Hug, Los Angeles. Recent group exhibitions include Köln Show 2, European Kunsthalle, Cologne; Modern Primitivism, Shane Campbell Gallery, Chicago; Back from the End of the Earth, Ben Kaufman Galerie, Berlin; Group Show, Regen Projects, Los Angeles. Chris Lipomi’s work has recently been reviewed in Artforum (June 2006 and November 2007), Art US (Spring 2006), Flash Art (January/February 2008), and the Los Angeles Times.
Maa-nupi Wakipi is Chris Lipomi’s first exhibition with Michael Lett.
