New Zealand Success at Australian Performing Arts Market
A Creative New Zealand led delegation of over thirty New Zealand artists and producers have just returned from a successful week at APAM (the Australian Performing Arts Market) in Adelaide.
APAM has been held biennially since 1994 and brings together more than 400 performing arts presenters and producers from around Australia and overseas. It is a unique networking opportunity for those in the performing arts industry.
"A New Zealand presence at APAM is an essential element of Creative New Zealand's international strategy. It gives our performing artists, producers and arts organisations access to the Australian market as well as other important global markets and is a fantastic opportunity for New Zealand's performing arts sector to introduce their work to an international audience," Creative New Zealand's Chief Executive, Stephen Wainwright said.
The four New Zealand productions showcased at APAM were Vula presented by The Conch, Instructions for Modern Living presented by Instant Happiness Ltd, Strange Resting Places presented by Taki Rua Productions and Baby where are the fine things you promised me? presented by Winning Productions.
Attending APAM was a great introduction to international markets said James Ashcroft, Tumuaki/ Artistic Director of Taki Rua.
"This was my first time at APAM and it was an excellent experience. Attending as part of a national delegation meant that we could make an impact on the market. It was really interesting to see the variety and standard of work being showcased in that international environment."
Following on from APAM, Creative New Zealand has assisted some of the international directors to be in Wellington this week for the New Zealand International Arts Festival.
