Sporting nation set to tune into Drysdale vs Waddell
The third – and potentially decisive – race between triple world champion Mahe Drysdale and 2000 Olympic champion Rob Waddell for the single sculling seat at the Beijing Olympics is to be broadcast live by TV1 and made available to all New Zealand TV stations.
“There is unprecedented interest in this race and the battle for the single sculls spot in Beijing, and we have been working very hard to satisfy the media and public interest in the sport in the past two days,” commented media and communications manager for Rowing New Zealand, Richard Gee.
“We have worked out a way with TVNZ that is workable for everyone involved so that the race footage can be broadcast live at 9.00am on Tuesday on TV1 and streamed live on TVNZ’s web site - www.tvnz.co.nz
“All TV stations in New Zealand will have access to the footage and most importantly, the on-water programme will be completely unchanged and the athletes in the single scull trial and other races will be unaffected, which has always been our primary concern.
“It’s been hard work to set it up, but everyone at TV1 has been very cooperative and very supportive in committing the specialist equipment to make the broadcast possible.
Weather and conditions permitting, the third and theoretically decisive third race will kick off at 9.00am tomorrow and will be covered in an extended Breakfast programme. The broadcast will be fronted by commentator Andrew Saville and there will be additional cameras on the banks of Lake Karapiro.
