New NZ On Air documentary funding will see local TV programmes in 2008 as diverse as parenting help, urban music hitting small town New Zealand, and the return of a critically acclaimed series on New Zealand justice.
The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show will feature clinical psychologist Nigel Latta offering a range of no-nonsense, down-to-earth advice for parents raising children.
"Nigel’s basic message is that you can do a perfectly good job of bringing up kids without losing your marbles – or your kids becoming delinquents," said NZ On Air Chief Executive Wrightson. “Each week he’ll look at an aspect of parenting, all with good sense and a fine helping of humour.”
The Politically Incorrect Parenting Show will screen on TV One.
Phunk Nation a 13-part music documentary series for Māori Television following popular Auckland group Spacifix as they travel round small town New Zealand.
Phunk Nation is an entertaining look at what makes small towns special. The band will perform in each of the towns it visits, taking in the attractions and talking to the locals.
“It’s a programme with a real New Zealand feel, combined with a celebration of our music,” Ms Wrightson said.
Funding has also been allocated to a second series of Bryan Bruce’s The Investigator, a six-part series exploring recent crime, missing persons and human rights cases.
"The first series of The Investigator was very well received by the audience and critics alike," Ms Wrightson said. "The programme takes a careful, intelligent look at serious cases and raises interesting questions about investigation processes and the New Zealand justice system. It’s fascinating stuff."
The Investigator will screen on TV One.
