Canterbury Film Society 2008 Season Opening Night Party
Monday 3 March 6.00pm, Rialto Cinema
Followed by Opening Night film ‘The Young Girls of Rochefort’ (Jacques Demy, France 1967) at 6.30pm.
The 2008 season of the Canterbury Film Society starts on Monday 3 March 6pm at the Rialto Cinema. For over 50 years, the society has been showing films that wouldn't otherwise be shown in Christchurch cinemas, from old silent films, to the classic Hollywood era, whole seasons of films by world-renowned directors, rare documentaries, animated films, and much more. Our 2008 season includes:
• French 1960s musicals
• Films by American independent director Charles Burnett
• Contemporary German cinema
• South Korean blockbusters
• Documentaries by Ross McElwee
• New Zealand short films
• Films by Ingmar Bergman, Michelangelo Antonioni, and Sergei Eisenstein
Membership to the society costs $100 ($90 unwaged) for a year – nearly 30 films! You can also buy a 3-film pass for $25. (Sorry, no individual ticket sales.) Members also receive discounts at the Film Festivals, Alice in Videoland, Rialto, and Regent. Screenings are at 6.30pm on Mondays at the Rialto Cinema, Moorhouse Avenue. (Some screenings at 8.00pm.)
