2008 Laser Worlds into final day

The two top place kiwis competing at the Laser World Championships have retained their overall standings after racing
yesterday off Terrigal, Australia. The title will be decided today.
Michael Bullot holds onto 5th place overall going into the final day, while David Weaver sits in 9th. Meanwhile Andrew
Murdoch slipped from 11th place back to 14th.
Yesterday belonged to Australian Tom Slingsby who has snatched the lead back from little known Argentinean sailor Julio
Alsogaray who left the beach yesterday with a seven point buffer. However Slingsby bounced back from a disappointing day
on Monday by winning both races sailed on Tuesday to overtake Alsogaray on the leader board for the top spot.
With just two races remaining points at the top are close and the pressure to finish well goes on today with Slingsby
just two points clear of Alsogaray. Javier Hernandez of Spain retains 3rd place overall and is ten points adrift of 2nd
place.
New Zealand and Great Britain are the only two nations with two sailors currently in the top ten; add Murdoch to the
mix, sitting in 14th, and the kiwis have three in the top fifteen. At this late stage Bullot is the one within striking
distance of the podium however he has a twelve point gap to make up to the 3rd placed Hernandez.
