New Zealand Poet Coming Home
Carindale, Qld - New Zealand born author Stephen Oliver is touring the country in February and March to celebrate the exciting new release of his poetry title Harmonic and his Text + Audio CD King Hit.
Harmonic is the latest in IP’s award-winning poetry series, which is supported by the Australia Council. King Hit is a new title from IP’s digital imprint, IP Digital, which is at the cutting edge of e-publishing in Australia.
Mr. Oliver has travelled extensively and resided in Australia for 20 years before returning to Te Kuiti on the North Island.
“It’ll be quite exciting going back home to launch Harmonic and perform work from the new book as well as King Hit,” Oliver said.
IP’s Director Dr. David Reiter will also be joining the tour with his latest work, the children’s picture book Real Guns and Global Cooling, a magical realistic book for children and the sequel to his environmental junior novel The Greenhouse Effect. Dr Reiter will be a visiting author at the Michael King Centre in Devonport, where he will speak to classes of high school students about writing.
“He [Stephen] is one of our star authors,” said Dr Reiter. “I’m really looking forward to the tour and also the opportunity to meet New Zealand authors, publishers and artists along the way.
An award-winning author and multimedia artist, Dr Reiter has composed a short film “A Simple Life” based on Oliver’s poem of the same title, using stills from the Swiss filmmaker Christian Frei’s documentary about the destructive of the Great Buddhas by the Taliban in 2001. The film has been accepted by New Zealand’s Arts Channel for broadcast and will be shown on the tour.
Reiter and Oliver will have their first appearance at Poetry Live: The Classic Studio in Auckland on 19 February at 8 p.m., followed by several events in Wellington and Dunedin and possibly Christchurch.
