Local PR Firms Four Year Plan to Bring Trinny & Susannah to New Zealand
When John Boyd, director of pr firm Donovan Boyd decided he wanted to bring What not Wear and Undress The Nation presenters Trinny & Susannah to New Zealand little did he realise that four years of planning, challenges and some disappointment lay ahead.
This will all be forgotten when the fashion experts touch down in Auckland on February 27th for a five day visit sponsored by Westfield New Zealand.
“There were many occasions when I felt it might not happen. We were close to securing dates and then because the girls schedule was so busy these dates would move,” said Boyd.
There were two crucial steps in turning the idea into a reality. One was to establish a good contact and rapport with their agent in London who Boyd met with while in the UK in 2005. Secondly was to make it financially viable for Trinny & Susannah for to come all this way. To achieve that Australia had to be included in the visit.
Boyd says his original plan was to run a series of shows in both countries but when he looked at the logistics and associated risk it didn’t stack up.
“I had preliminary discussions with Westfield NZ very early in the planning stages and they were keen to get involved and then we started discussions with Westfield Australia. Negotiations took a few months before dates were locked in and contracts signed, at which point a quiet celebratory drink was enjoyed by the Donovan Boyd team.”
Boyd is confident Trinny & Susannah will prove to be a hit in New Zealand.
“Everyone I have spoken to has been very excited about the visit, and Trinny and Susannah are looking forward to their first visit to New Zealand. It’ll be interesting to see their take of our fashion sense down under.”
