Adrian Hailwood announced as guest designer at id Dunedin Fashion Week 2008
For someone who claims to have fallen into fashion design "by accident", Adrian Hailwood has enough strings to his bow
to make a violin sing.
Fresh from winning the 2007 Air New Zealand Fashion Week Export Growth Award worth $20,000 in free travel last
September, Hailwood will bring burst upon the Dunedin fashion scene as the guest designer for the Southern Trust id
Dunedin Fashion Show on 1 March.
His latest collection "A life in the day" from the Beatles song off the Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album
is full of promise. Loosely based on a jacket from the Beatles "Help" album cover and a dance uniform designed in the
early 20's by Rudolph Steiner, the range is a strong mix of masculine 60's and free flowing 20's.
Hailwood's 2008 collection goes up on his website next week for public view www.hailwood.co.nz, but sneak previews are
available on runwayreporter.com and his myspace page.
About "A life in the day" Adrian says: "I like the oversize silhouette crossed with the skinny stove pipe legs of the
Beatles era.
Id Dunedin Fashion Committee Chair Susie Staley said Adrian would add an extra dimension to Southern Trust id Dunedin
Fashion Week 2008.
"He will be our first male guest designer," she said. "He's also been recently described as having a vision for growth,
strong business acumen and an experimental, creative approach to fashion."
Designing both woman's and men's collections, the Hailwood label is now stocked around the world including stores in the
USA, Denmark, Hong Kong and Australia. Known for his strong fabric prints and shoe line, the collections are featured in
many of the world's best publications.
The clothes are both structured and unstructured ranging from t- shirts to evening dresses and suits.
The 2008 Southern Trust ID Fashion Show is to be held on Saturday 1 March 2008 starting 8pm, at one of the world's "must
see" heritage buildings, the Dunedin Railway Station.
