Bro’ Town Creator to MC Free Festival Concert
From Score to Screen – Symphonic Soundtracks in the Park
Oscar Kightley [bro’Town, Naked Samoans] has been confirmed as Master of Ceremonies for the Festival’s free outdoor
event From Score to Screen. The greatest film soundtracks of all time take centre stage in this fun-filled concert at
Waitangi Park on the opening weekend of the New Zealand International Arts Festival.
Pull out that picnic rug, slap on that sunscreen and join the Vector Wellington Orchestra and conductor Marc Taddei in
From Score to Screen – a concert celebrating the sheer diversity of film music.
It's been said that a good film score should not be noticeable - it should be so well-integrated into the film that it
is as much a part of the finished production as the sets or cinematography. But sometimes a score is much more than that
and lives on, indelibly stamped on a culture.
Oscar Kightley will guide you through a musical journey of classic cinema from Psycho and Taxi Driver to Ben-Hur and Dr
Zhivago inter-dispersed with his unique comedic talents in between.
Forgot St Valentines Day? Then recapture the mood while listening to Gone with the Wind, or enjoy the cliffhanging
thrills from Raiders of the Lost Ark. Children will revel in dressing up as their favourite characters to hear the
familiar tunes from John Williams' Pirates of the Caribbean and Harry Potter soundtracks.
From Score to Screen will be a winding road of film, fantasy and fun with works from the golden days of Hollywood and
the maestros of the contemporary blockbuster.
Another free extravaganza is The Band of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee – a military band of 54 musicians whose
unique, solid sound is made up of brass instruments, saxophones, extended percussion and 15 flugelhorns! Don’t miss the
band’s free concerts on 28, 29 February and 1 March at Frank Kitts Park.
From Score to Screen takes place at Waitangi Park, Wellington (opposite Schaffer’s Park New World) on Sunday 24 February
at 2pm. This event is free and for all the family. With support from New Zealand Community Trust and Wellington City
Council
The Band of the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee performs at Frank Kitts Park on Thursday 28 February at 5.45pm, Friday 29
February at 5.45pm and Saturday 1 March at 11am.
