New figure to reside on waterfront’s edge
Media are invited to attend the launch of Solace in the Wind, an artwork by English artist Max Patté on Tuesday 12
February at Te Papa Promenade.
The sculpture, a 6’6” iron figure of a man leaning into the harbour, was accepted by Wellington City Council’s Public
Art Panel as a loan for one year.
The artwork will be launched by Richard Taylor from WETA Workshop, Max Patté will also speak.
Max says he fell for Wellington’s waterfront a few years ago, when he turned to it for a place of contemplation and
solace during a time of loss and grief.
“This city and its elements have been the inspiration for this work,” he says. “The location where the sculpture will
reside on Wellington’s waterfront is significant for me. It represents a time and place where I have felt so much.
Wellington is truly a unique place to live.”
The launch starts at 6pm on Tuesday 12 February at Te Papa Promenade (at the Chaffers Marina end).
Mr Patté will be available to talk to media.
