Humble Souls To Play Halberg Dinner
Lynfield College based band Humble Souls have been invited to play at the Halberg Awards prestigious dinner in Chch on Feb 19.
a.. Six band members are all keen sportsmen as well as talented musicians.
b.. "Slow jam"/ reggae style.
c.. Senior players in kilikiti, tag, touch, league, and rugby teams - school and club.
d.. Performances at Pasifika and Play it Strange concerts and events.
e.. Frontman Matthew Nana'i has twice come in the top 40 of Play it Strange song writing competitions.
f.. Mentor Mike Chunn describes them as 'way above average' in their enthusiasm and performance. I've attached some more info and a pic.
Humble Souls Profile
The Band
Matthew Nana’i – lead singer, guitar, song-writer. Among top 40 in the 2007 Play it Strange song writing competition with “Happy Birthday” and in top 20 in 2006 with “Forever Love”. Plays 2nd XV rugby, senior touch rugby and tag.
Peter Viane – guitar. Former kilikiti champion and 2nd XV player; also plays touch and tag. Junior sports dux 2006. First at Lynfield College to qualify for Auckland Under 15 Development Squad.
Jordan Ekeroma – vocals. Player for 3rd grade rugby, junior touch and tag teams. Member of the Auckland Central Champion Tag team.
Dion Tevi - bass. Chris Perenara - vocals. Both top league, senior touch, tag and sevens team members. Coached the Lynfield Junior Tag team to victory in the Auckland Championships.
Mark Nana’i – drums. Matthew’s older brother, no longer at school.
Style - “slow jam”/reggae
Competitions and Performances
2006 Matthew Nana’i is in the top 20 songwriters in the Play it Strange competition with “Forever Love” which is recorded on the Play it Strange CD.
Oct 2006 Matthew Nana’i features in TV2’s documentary “Play it Strange” which follows the story of the competition and five of the top 20 finalists.
March 2007 “Pasifika” – Humble Souls are the youngest artists to play on the APRA (Australasian Performing Rights Association) stage and also play on the Families Commission stage.
May 2007 – Humble Souls plays in “Band of Strangers” concert and “A Night with Strange Friends”, the trust’s fundraising dinner and auction. The band shares the stage with Citizen Band, Don McGlashan, Jordan Luck and Eddie Rayner.
Youth Week May 2007 – Perform at “That Thing in the Park” with Spacifix and The Have.
Oct 2007 – Matt’s song “Happy Birthday”, performed and recorded by Humble Souls, is in the top 40 Play it Strange song awards.
