Mercure Hotel Wellington Sponsors Round The Bays Fun Run
Mercure Hotel Wellington is proud to be a sponsor of the 2008 Vector Wellington Round the Bays fun run/walk for the
second time this year.
On Sunday 17 February, thousands of people will come together for the annual event, either walking or running their way
around the beautiful waterfront bays of Wellington. Round the Bays is recognised as an iconic event in the capital city,
with more than 10,000 people participating last year.
General Manager Business Development at Sport Wellington, Michael Bennington, says: "Mercure Hotels have been involved
with Vector Wellington Round the Bays for a number of years. Sport Wellington Region greatly appreciates the
contribution they make to the success of the event. A new promotion this year is the introduction of the Bring a Mate
competition, in which Mercure Hotels have enthusiastically come on board as one of the major sponsors, providing nine
accommodation prizes in total for the event.”
The aim of the Vector Wellington Round the Bays is to provide an opportunity for people to get active and it also
supports the Push Play initiative to encourage New Zealanders to become more active, more often.
The sponsorship provides some funding for the event, as well as accommodation prizes for participants. Hotel employees
will also be getting into the spirit by entering their own team in Round the Bays.
Mercure Hotel Wellington General Manager Olivier Lacoua says: “Family and community are very important to our hotel and
we are proud to support an event that encourages fitness, wellbeing and community spirit. We already have a strong
relationship with Sport Wellington, which oversees the event, so this is another way to get directly involved.”
