Harsh and Fast Weekend For Ross
A rough weekend at the NZ Truth V8s did not dampen the spirits of Cambridge's Nick Ross who was very happy with progress
made in the car's overall speed which saw him moving up through the pack.
A good start to the qualification session on Friday meant that Ross was able to get past the first knockout session to
remain in the top 20 but a flat battery ruined any chance of a top grid position.
"Qualifying was good for us but the battery went flat in the second session and with the car not working right all we
could achieve was 17th." said Ross.
In the first race on Saturday afternoon Ross was up into 13th after an early spill into the gravel but his chances of
continuing that progress went right out the door when the gearbox fell apart.
"On lap two I just went in a little deep on the brakes and went off. I got going again and was going well until the
gearbox troubles. I was having selection problems earlier on in the race which made it difficult to drive and then with
two laps to go it started to make some funny noises and then just stopped moving." said Ross.
After replacing the gearbox Ross was back and ready for action. Starting from the rear of the pack after his DNF he knew
he was going to have a battle on his hands but was ready to see what the car could do after it showed some good pace in
practice and qualification.
"In Race Two we started from the back due to our DNF but I started to pick them off one by one and moved up into 15th
which was pretty good going after starting from 31st or whatever placing last was. We found something that worked and
went for it, I don't know if everyone was going slower or I was just going really quick." laughed Ross.
Race Three was on after the A1GP feature race and the majority of the crowd had decided to stay and watch the action of
the NZ Truth V8s who were to have a reverse grid start.
Ross starting from inside the top 10 made his way up to 6th place and was having an exciting battle with Andrew
Anderson. Unfortunately Ross soon received a nudge which sent him spiralling off the circuit and was once more back to
clawing his way through the field but was unable to move up too far.
The Total Lubricants Commodore showed good pace over the weekend which Ross and the team were again very excited about
even though the events over the meeting didn't quite go their way.
"We're pretty happy with the progress we are making with the chassis and we're getting faster and faster all the time
but I can't say I'm 100 percent happy with the weekend's result." said Ross.
Next stop is Manfeild Autocourse where the NZ Truth V8s will contest Round Four of the season's Six but will also have a
non-championship round at the Hamilton street race.
