Michael Lett is pleased to announce the first exhibition of the 2008 programme: a two person show of work by Jacqueline
Fraser and Eve Armstrong.
Jacqueline Fraser's recent work is darkly aspirational; combining images with a deep sense of glamour and high drama. A
B-Grade Edie Sedgwick is not a good look: POODLE (2006), Those Tracey Emin simulations don¹t know shit from clay²
DARLING (2006). Jacqueline Fraser has exhibited extensively in a career that spans three decades of practice, exhibiting
regularly in Europe, the United States, and Australasia.
She has made solo museum projects at the New Museum in New York (2001), Kunsthalle Wien (2005), and participated in many
important international exhibitions, including the Venice Biennale (2001), Yokohama Triennale (2001), and Art Basel. In
2004 Jacqueline was shortlisted for both the Walters Prize (NZ), and Artes Mundi (UK). Jacqueline Fraser lives and works
in Auckland and New York.
Eve Armstrong works by extending, adapting and facilitating exchanges of form and value with a recurring emphasis on
transactional and formal processes. Her sculptural outputs work with unwanted objects and resources of consumer,
community, and urban environments in complex and deceptively formal arrangements. Eve graduated from Auckland¹s Elam
School of Fine Arts in 2003, and in 2006 was an inaugural recipient of the Arts Foundation of New Zealand New Generation
Award. Eve has made solo projects within many international exhibitons, including the 3rd Auckland Triennial (2007), the
Busan Biennale (2006), the SCAPE Art & Industry Biennial (2006), and held a major solo exhibition at Artspace Auckland in 2005-2006. In early 2008 Eve will
undertake the Asia New Zealand Foundation/AiR Association Hong Kong artists residency project. Eve Armstrong lives and
works in Auckland.
This exhibition coincides with the release of a new re-publication of Eve Armstrong¹s book How To Hold A Trading Table:
A Manual for Beginners. Copies of the publication are available now directly from Michael Lett, and selected
booksellers.
