The sophomore full length album from NZ band, The Ruby Suns ‘Sea Lion’ is set for release on 19 January 2008 on Lil’
Chief via Rhythmethod distribution. First radio single ‘Kenya Dig It’ is an instant favourite at student radio zipping
into the Top 10 of the NZ Alt Radio Chart and the next single ‘Tane Mahuta’ will be serviced in the New Year! The Ruby
Suns will be celebrating by playing a short series of shows before heading off to the U.S. and the U.K. to support the
international release of the record in March.

Possibly best known to the mainstream NZ audiences for their bus catching fire and losing all their gear on a tour of
the U.S. a couple of years ago, The Ruby Suns have been making an impact overseas for some time with their first self
titled album. Already signed to hip UK label Memphis Industries, the critical acclaim from that first album led to tours
in the USA, UK, NZ and Australia variously with The Shins, Animal Collective and Field Music. And in early 2007 the band
signed to Sub Pop for the USA.

The Ruby Suns are 24-year-old lead singer/songwriter and Californian expat Ryan McPhun, plus New Zealand natives Amee
Robinson and Imogen Taylor. They put the finishing touches to this album in a variety of locations in New Zealand and
Australia with sound effects culled from Ryan's dictaphone travels round New Zealand and Africa.
Sea Lion bursts with summery pop tunes appealingly coupled with a dizzying breadth of musical styles from African and
Polynesia folk music, flamenco, eighties synth pop to Disney movie soundtracks. Whilst the first album's musical hat was
firmly tilted toward The Beach Boys, Sea Lion goes walkabout with a rucksack full of ideas, revealing a joy for the
natural world that'd put Attenborough to shame. Everything's underpinned by a style reminiscent of US indie
experimentalists Animal Collective, early Mercury Rev and Olivia Tremor Control. It’s an album that'll charm the birds
from the trees, invite them in for a cup of tea and teach 'em to talk.
The eagerly anticipated ‘Sea Lion’ album will be released in Jan ’08 through Lil’Chief & via Sub Pop in the US, Memphis Industries in the UK, Pop Frenzy in Aus & Rhythmethod in NZ.
