Lower Hutt Couple’s Fridge Surprise
A little yellow ticket was stuck to a fridge for two months, before a Lower Hutt couple realised it was worth a luxury holiday for two to a Caribbean island PLUS $100,000 cash.
NZ Lotteries had been searching for three Necker Island trip winners who are yet to claim their luxury travel packages.
The Kelson couple read about the unclaimed prizes in their local paper this week.
“Yesterday I was feeding my baby in her high chair when she reached up and grabbed something off the fridge. I realised it was an old Lotto ticket and then started to wonder whether it could be the missing winning voucher,” the woman said.
“I thought what are the chances. But after I checked the voucher number I realised we had won. I was so excited! When I rang my husband to tell him the good news he did not believe me. He always jokes that we have ‘the winning ticket’ after buying Lotto but this time our dream really did come true.
“This has been the most fantastic Christmas present. It will allow us to finish building our house – we will finally get our bathroom done. Plus we have the most amazing holiday to look forward to – I have already booked my parents as our babysitters,” she said.
Their winning ticket was purchased from Park Avenue Bookshop in Lower Hutt.
The Necker Island competition was Lotto’s most luxurious holiday competition ever with 12 prizes of a trip for two to Sir Richard Branson’s resort. On top of this fully paid trip for two, each of the 12 winners also gets $100,000 cash.
“Of the twelve prizes drawn on 20 October, two are now still to be claimed. The two unclaimed vouchers were sold at Cambridge Cards and Copy Centre in Cambridge and Woolworths Taupo.
“All players who purchased a Lotto Triple Dip between Sunday 07 October and 7pm, Saturday 20 October 2007 from these stores should make sure they check their vouchers at any NZ Lotteries’ retailer as soon as possible,” says Mr McLeay.
Background on Necker Island:
Necker Island is a luxurious private island in the British Virgin Islands in the Caribbean and is owned by Virgin boss Sir Richard Branson. The entire island has been secured by NZ Lotteries for this very special prize offer. The prize package includes all flights, transfer costs, food and the full range of beverages. The week’s holiday on Necker Island will take place in May 2008. Full details of the prize package can be found in the promotional terms and conditions.
