Triple X Motorsport Sign British Driver For Taupo Porsche Gt3 Appearance.
New Zealand motor racing team Triple X Motorsport have signed top British Porsche Supercup driver Phil Quaife to contest Round 3 of the 2008 Porsche GT3 Challenge Cup at Taupo Motorsport Park in January. Quaife joins the team for his one-off meeting alongside Matt Halliday and defending champion Craig Baird who remains unbeaten after two rounds of the Championship.
Quaife will be looking to take the fight to his team mates when he races at the high profile A1GP meeting in Taupo. The 2007/08 New Zealand motor racing season commenced with a dream debut for Triple X Motorsport after they dominated the first two rounds of the summer series at Pukekohe Park Raceway and Powerbuilt Raceway near Christchurch. In the six races contested so far, Baird and Halliday have dominated qualifying and racing with Baird taking out six wins to Halliday’s four second placings.
Quaife will be sponsored by VnC Cocktails and says of his New Year trip south:
"It's an opportunity I couldn't resist. I'm always looking to gain experience at different tracks and in different environments so my first visit to New Zealand will be very special. I don't know how my performance level will stack up against the local boys, so it's an unknown quantity. That makes it a great challenge for me, and I can't wait to get there."
Team Manager Ian McNabb and Technical Director Todd Bickerton have a huge task ahead of them as the team will field six cars at Taupo including Aussie driver Rodney Forbes, Team Owner Shane McKillen and Michael Morton. However, they are confident they will be ready and able to produce another dominant performance to maintain their position at the top of the points ladder.
The Battery Town Porsche GT3 Challenge Cup will feature three races at Taupo from 18th to 20th January 2008 in what will be the biggest motorsport race weekend on the New Zealand sporting calendar.
