An exclusive new range of Bridget Morgan designed Merinosilk, Naturezone and Pacific Lambskin clothing hits the shelves of Koha this week, just in time for Christmas.
Bridget’s latest garment collection features summer and autumn colours in natural New Zealand made fabrics. The clothing is designed only for Koha and sold exclusively in the Queenstown, Auckland and Rotorua Koha stores and in four sister stores around the country.
Bridget is a high profile fashion designer specialising in using New Zealand’s natural fibres. She’s also the driving creative force behind the innovative design and branding of Koha’s first store in Queenstown, which opened in September 2007.
“My inspiration for the new range comes from the dramatic landscape of New Zealand, its pure natural beauty and Pacific heritage. The textures and patterns are inspired by Maori and Pacific motifs,” said Bridget.
“New Zealand has excellent natural resources that can be made into beautiful, practical garments which in turn are known to be among the best in the world.”
The new Merinosilk Knitwear range for 2008 has been created in vibrant colours including aqua, and fuchsia for women, and sky, kiwifruit and lichen for men. For women there’s a range of casual jackets vests and sweaters with textured, striped and felted trims. The men’s range includes lightweight zip sport jackets, vests and sweaters ideal for the office, and outdoor leisure activities.
Koha’s Merinosilk is a 100% natural blend of 65% superfine Merino wool, 25% possum fur. The clothing is created using revolutionary complete garment technology which is unique to just one wool manufacturer in New Zealand. The machinery knits entire garments in one piece so there are no side seams or assembly needed.
“It’s very important to nurture New Zealand manufacturing, so we don't loose the skills collected over generations. Advanced knitting technology means our garments can be competitively priced against imported items being produced overseas in places like China.
“This approach is vital to Koha, because it means we can honour our commitment to source and sell only pure New Zealand products,” said Bridget.
The new Naturezone merino range in mushroom, berry, sky and soft pink colours features short sleeve styles ideal for all seasons. Naturezone is a performance range of travel and adventure wear which prevents chilling in cool damp environments and maintains comfort by buffering the body’s microclimate against changing conditions.
The Pacific Lamsbkin range for 2008 is designed for the outdoors, but has a high fashion look ideal for international visitors to wear in chic international cities. Skins are humanely sourced from lambs that have died of natural causes within a week of birth.
