Last Minute Requests Keeping Santa Busy
Santa’s phone line and email inbox are overflowing as the big day nears
and children across New Zealand scramble to get their Christmas orders in
on time.
Tens of thousands of phone calls a day are pouring into Telecom’s Santa
Line. The number of calls is expected to exceed 400,000 following the
traditional rush on calls in the last few days before Christmas. To date
more than 800 texts and emails have been sent to Santa.
While Santa uses the most up-to-date communication tools available,
including his own website, it seems most Kiwi children prefer to call the
big man directly.
And what’s hot on the list of requests keep changing…
The most popular requests from girls have been:
 Bratz dolls
 Barbie dolls
 Baby Alive
 Lollies
 Accessories (including jewellery, handbags and shoes)
 Polly pocket
 A pony or horse
 Shoes
 Books
 Mobile phones
The most popular requests from boys have been:
 Transformers
 PlayStation/Xbox or computer games
 Lollies
 Sports equipment
 Bike
 Clothes
 Hotwheels
 Lego
 Motorbike
 Books
Some of the wackier ideas for Christmas presents were:
Girl’s toy:
• A purple goo moon
• A bucket full of love
• A fresian cow
• A visit to Fairyland
• A trip to venus
• A baby sister
Boy’s toy:

Children can visit Santa online at www.telecom.co.nz/santa. The free
calling number is 0800 222 222 and children can text their Christmas wish
to 9627 on their Telecom mobile phone. Each text message costs 20 cents,
with all proceeds donated to Women’s Refuge.
