City Hotels Top Christmas Day List
Auckland - 18 December 2007: Wotif.com (www.wotif.com) Australasia’s leading accommodation website, revealed today that New Zealand’s city destinations are the most popular destinations for bookings over the Christmas period* for 2007.
While the traditional Christmas holiday favourites of Taupo, Rotorua, Tauranga and Queenstown all appeared on the list, many travellers appear to be opting for a city-based getaway this Christmas, with Auckland, Christchurch and Wellington placed as the first, second and fourth most popular destinations respectively.
Wotif.com’s New Zealand Manager, Tania Witheford said, “While traditional holiday destinations remain busy over Christmas, Wotif.com allows city hotels and apartments, who experience lower occupancy during this time, to attract savvy consumers by offering great accommodation deals which often include free extras such as parking and breakfast.
“We are seeing an increasing number of people finding these deals too good to refuse and opting to stay in the city over Christmas,” she added.
These savvy consumers not only get to experience luxury accommodation at a great rate, they also bypass the Christmas crowds, are close to the Boxing Day sales (so they don’t have to drag their purchases far) and as an added bonus can avoid sleeping on the floor next to Uncle Tim on Christmas night.
