Mural Masterpiece Winners Announced
Each year, Resene is approached by a wide variety of groups creating murals around New Zealand. With most of this
dedicated effort receiving only local community attention, Resene decided to recognise and celebrate this creativity
with a Mural Masterpieces Competition so that we can all enjoy the works that are created, no matter where they are in
New Zealand.
Hundreds have splashed out and created mural masterpieces beautifying towns, schools and neighbourhoods all over New
Zealand and entered them into the third Resene Mural Masterpieces competition. With themes ranging from underwater
scenes to history, nature to the future, selecting the winners was a difficult task.
The Resene Mural Masterpieces winners, sharing between them over $5000 of prizes, are:
Best School Mural:
1st Place: Douglas Park School, Masterton.
2nd = Place: East Taieri School, Mosgiel.
2nd = Place: Gisborne Girls High School.
2nd = Place: Okaihau College, Okaihau.
Best Community Mural:
1st Place: Fiordland College students, mural donated to The Lighthouse Youth Centre.
2nd Place: Michelle Carswell and team, mural donated to Rissington Primary School.
Highly commended (2 awarded):
Adeline Wihongi, Matua Hone Tata, Arahia Cherrington, mural donated to Te Timatatanga o Te Matauranga Kindergarten.
Robin Stock, mural donated to Winchester Rural School.
Best Professional Mural:
1st Place: Daniel Mills and the Waipu Cove Reserve Board for the Day Reserve Waipu Cove mural.
2nd Place: Jasmin Fuller for the One Tree Point School mural.
Best Mural Design - Mural Designed But Not Yet Painted:
1st Place: Rotoiti Primary School.
2nd Place: Andrew Dempster, Hokitika.
