Conviction and sentencing statistics released
The Ministry of Justice has released the latest annual compilation of criminal conviction and sentencing statistics, covering the 1997-2006 calendar years.
This is the most comprehensive compilation of statistics on criminal court proceedings and convictions, providing useful data on long-term trends for government agencies and the general public.
The data include:
§            prosecutions and convictions
§            sentencing
§            custodial sentences and remands
§            community-based sentences
§            monetary penalties.
The data is available on the Statistics New Zealand website (www.statistics.govt.nz) and a summary is available on the Ministry of Justice website (www.justice.govt.nz).
